DaWangFeng was not in the itinerary, and XiaoWang repeatably mentioned that it was not for climbing and it is also the 'snake' season (He should know this thing call 'internet'?). It is not in most tour but it is not closed for climbing.
DaWang Feng was the first 'Feng' or prominent peak that we saw in WuYiShan, and it is right across our hotel room. It was lit up during the DaHongPao Impression show and I had 'pitied' the nocturnal animals living on the peak, having to be disturbed nightly.
The rafting on JiuQu stream ended at WuYiTemple, the starting point to climb DaWangFeng. There was no tour group or anyone else as we walked onto the path for DaWang Feng.
The climb started amongst the tree with a long flight of steps. It was followed by more steps and steps.
We could hassle a guess why there was no tour group.:- the narrow steps and forested environment were not be able to accommodate masses of climbers.
Eventually, we came to an opening. The town view's emerged amongst the plantation.
After taking a short break, we continued our climb with ever more steps. We also met a few climbers.
We came to another clearing that offered a bird-eye of the town. We took the opportunity for another rest.
It was getting humid and it started drizzling. It was also quiet and peaceful.
A signpost indicated the climb to the top from either by the left (South) or right. We had read that the south(or left) 'approach' via a 'switch-back' almost-vertical climb from a gap on the wall, but not much of the right ascent. We proceeded to the left and to decide if we would climb when we see it with our eyes.
We reached the high wall, and there was no more steps to proceed higher.
There was 1 flight of stone steps that led into the 'crack' between the two cliff walls.
We took in the magnificent view in the rain.
We decided that we would not be going up the switch-back but to try from the "right" side.
We turned back, and climbed from the right path.
More steps...
We emerged in a small landing at the peak.
We then hurriedly did our descent as the rain was getting heavier.
We reached the base and exit the Wuyi temple compound and walked back to the hotel
Based on the time on the photos, the walk took about two hours. We started at about 3 p.m. and completed the walk by about 4:45 p.m. Also, we did not encounter any snake.
