Hiroshima Day Trip
An early morning Shinkansen train ride from Osaka to Hiroshima. We bought a JR pass at the Osaka Station. Although we were unable to reserve a seat, there were non-reserved carriages that where we managed to get good seats. :)
Miyajima
The JR pass can be used for the ferry ride to Miyajima. As the ferry sailed towards Miyajimam the famed Great Torii Gate came into view. Maybe because the ferry was a distance away from the Tori, it looked smaller and less impressive than what I expected.
There are wild free-roaming deers on the island. They walked the streets just like the residents on the island with ease and calm ;).
Miyajima is very popular with tourists, and we followed the crowd toward the Torii Gate. It was low tide, and we could walk to the base of Torii.
Momijidani Park
We 'stumbled' upon the Momijidani Park at a lane leading to the ferry terminal. At the other end of the lane was a cluster of flaming red crimson trees that caught my attention. I decided to check it out and continued walking towards a park. Then TP - 'the appointed tour guide' said that we were at the Monijidani park according to Google maps!
It was indeed a beautiful and enchanting walk surrounded by autumn leaves of brilliant shades of red to orange showcasing themselves before they fell to the ground. The green amongst the autumn leaves provided a vivid contrast to the color as well.
Other than the canopy of colors overhead, the fallen leaves carpeting the ground completed the perfect autumn landscape.
TP explained that he 'missed' including the park in the itinerary because he thought it was far away... <<No excuse is better than lousy excuse?>>
Hiroshima Peace Park
The iconic building withstood the explosion of the atomic bomb and has become the symbol of the destruction of war as well as Peace. The park is serene with groups of students and individuals offerings silent prayers at the site.
The park invokes a reflective mood and hope for peace.
Food
Bought sandwich and pokemon donut for the Osaka-Hiroshima train ride.
Had the famed Oysters lunch at Miyajima.
Finally, Okonomiyaki for dinner.
We took the evening train back to Osaka.
