Brighton : Seaside City by the South Coast of England

The airport of arrival for our flight from Tromso to London was Gatwick Airport. Since the arrival time of the flight was in the afternoon, we decided to book the hotel room in Brighton. We could explore Brighton before going to London the next day.
We checked into Ibis hotel near the train station, and then headed towards the city centre and the seaside.

There was an air of festivity along the roads with many doing their evening shopping. The main city centre, clock tower and the pier were brightly lit up. Although the night was cold, we enjoyed our walk and had a nice dinner.

The morning was sunny and bright with a refreshing chill. We 'hit' the road, strolling through the alleys towards the Cultural Quarter and the Pier.
Other than the bigger well-known shops along the main road/high streets, Brighton is famed for its many narrow alleyways with small cafes, clothing stores, antique shops, jewelry shops and other unique shops. We passed through the alleys but made a mental note to revisit in the afternoon.

The Royal Pavilion is an interesting building. Even to the untrained eye(me), I thought it had an interesting mix of Eastern and Western influences, making it a unique building.

The Dome was another interesting building we spotted along the way.

We strolled along the Brighton Pier.

Brighton's beach stretches for about 8.7 kilometers.

There were a few small seaside seafood shops and fortunately one of them was open. We eagerly ordered the different seafood available, and had a jolly good time eating, enjoying the sun, the view of the sea and the cool breeze on a winter morning.

We also had a light lunch in a seafood restaurant. It didn't match up to having seafood by the beachfront :).

We then headed back to The Lane for more wandering around, and also to have a cup of coffee.

I did not manage to contact my friend while I was traveling in Europe. However, lo and behold, I saw her while sipping my coffee along an alleyway!

She invited us to her house and we had a good time chatting, eating and drinking tea. The Christmas decorations in her house were almost an ode to the uniqueness of the city, with several Chinese lanterns making up part of the ensemble. It was a very lovely house, and in the most ideal location. Thank you :)

Although we did our 'less-than-extensive' research and had low expectations for our short visit to  Brighton , we were indeed pleasantly surprise by Brighton's uniqueness, vibrancy and convenience.
It was a good trip :).
